Drabble: The Line

I stand at the precipice of a clearly defined line. One side is safety. Yet, which side is that? A confusing dilemma. One side holds dragons. The other safety.

He drew the line to keep me safe. A line that should not be crossed. However, I can take one step to face the beast. The choice, as always, is mine.

Turmoil builds until one simple misstep. Or maybe intentional step. Either way, I cross the line. And face the dragon.

A growl erupts. Fire flares. Consuming pain. Until fire subdues pain. Safety again. Another line drawn. Until the next step.
